Among the many goals of the Rio Grade Roundtable when addressing future water supply shortages, the Roundtable is committed to addressing the following areas:

  • Achieve sustainable aquifers through better management and reduction of groundwater pumping
  • Augmentation for growth in South Fork and other areas
  • Regulate compact deliveries to minimize curtailment
  • Ensure adequate water for future needs
    • M&I
    • Agricultural
    • Environmental
    • Recreational
    • Augmentation for growth
The Rio Grande Basin Roundtable recognizes that agriculture will remain the primary use of water within the basin. The economy of the region will depend upon the ability to create more sustainable water policies in the basin. The Roundtable is actively working with its many members and community organizations to achieve this goal, so that the basin can continue to be an agricultural base for the state of Colorado, while also sustaining the wildlife habitat and recreational attributes of its natural areas, river corridors and extensive wetlands - all of which depend upon adequate water supplies.
